We sought to investigate: 1) the plant-based diets of wild Asian elephants in Taman Negara National Park (TNNP), segmented by sex and age, utilizing high-throughput DNA metabarcoding; and 2) the dietary composition of captive elephants, using the generated plant metabarcoding database. DNA extraction processes were performed on 24 individual fecal samples, which were gathered from the TNNP and the NECC Kuala Gandah, using noninvasive methods.
